Fall Maintenance & Winter Preparations

With the proper fall maintenance on your water feature, you will:
  1. Ensure the long-term health of your ecosystem
  2. Ensure the survival of your aquatic life over winter
  3. Make for a much easier start-up in the spring!

Fall Maintenance varies based on the water feature and can include all or some of the following:
  • Remove all leaves, debris and other material from the pond
  • Cut back hardy plants
  • Remove tropical plants
  • Clean Filter Mats as needed
  • Check Lighting
  • Check Pump for proper flow
  • Installation of Protective Leaf Netting
  • Add appropriate water treatments

Winter Preparations also vary based on the water feature and can include all or some of the following:
  • Remove leaves, debris and other material from pond
  • Cut back plants if not done already
  • Clean filter mats if needed
  • Check Lighting
  • Check pump for proper flow or Shut Down Pump for winter
  • If shut down, we will also disconnect and drain the check valves and plumbing
  • If shut down, remove filter mats and media and store in a dry place.
  • Remove Protective Leaf Netting
  • Install Aerator, Heater and/or De-Icer
  • Add appropriate water treatments
