All-natural - effectively protects pond fish!
We all love our fish as if they are other pets of the family and it’s difficult to lose even one. Remember prevention is the easiest way to avoid disease problems is to maintain optimum water conditions. Feeding a quality diet and adding Beneficial Bacteria or Maintain on a regular basis will help maintain a balanced Ecosystem. Most fish issues can be provided by following a few simple preventative measures:
Understand your water quality – The majority of issues are caused by poor water quality. Make sure that the fish population is under control. In addition, don’t be afraid to do PARTIAL water changes often. Make sure when adding water, or when you are making a PARTIAL water change that you treat the water with Pond Detox to eliminate chlorine. Aerating your pond water is also something that can potentially increase water quality dramatically.
Purchasing Koi fish – Make sure you buy your fish from a responsible dealer. Never buy a sick fish, and if possible, quarantine your fish before adding them to your pond. Always ask how long they had the fish – if they just got them ask them to hold them for a few days to make sure the fish recover from the stress related to transport and new water chemistry. All fish provided by Chris’ Water Gardens have been shipped from a reputable dealer in Iowa. They are hardy to our Illinois temperatures, and we also quarantine prior to purchase.
Keep a close eye on your fish – If any signs of disease are seen start using Pond Salt immediately. If things look like they are getting worse, immediately treat the pond with the appropriate treatment. The longer you wait to treat the problem the less chance you have of saving your fish. Disease problems must be addressed in the early stages to be successful. Please contact our office for suggestions if you’re not sure what products to use. We only recommend Aquascape products and have them available for purchase.
Feed your fish a High-Quality Food – Feeding your fish a quality food will not affect your water quality and will ensure that your fish are getting all the vitamins and nutrients they need to maintain proper health. Be sure to feed your fish often and consistently. Make sure you pick the same spot to feed from so the fish will recognize this is your feeding spot.

Aquascape Pond Salt provides a wide variety of benefits for ponds and pond fish, acting as a treatment and preventative measure. Our Pond Salt helps to reduce the effects of elevated nitrite levels that become toxic to pond fish. It also helps restore natural electrolytes, allowing proper gill function when pond fish are under stress. This non-iodized salt also repairs and promotes a natural slime coat, effectively helping to prevent disease.
Used for the treatment of bacterial infections, fin rot, open sores, and ulcers. Most disease problems or issues can be linked back to poor water quality or introduction of sick or stressed fish. Before adding any treatment to your pond or holding system, make sure and verify all water parameters and rectify any issues before treating.
